The Parkes Radio Telescope does NOT employ telescope operators. At least two observers who have been trained to operate the telescope will therefore be required to be at the observatory for most observing runs of long duration.
Lunch at the Quarters is served between 12:30-13:30 Mon-Fri (self-serve
on weekends).
If you are arriving around this time on a weekday, please indicate on your
reservation form if you require lunch.
First-time Parkes observers should make every effort to plan
their arrival to allow between two and three hours to complete the obligatory
Safety and Operator training during normal Observatory working hours
(8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday to Friday) before their observing run begins.
To arrange OPERATOR TRAINING,
please email John Sarkissian or Stacy Mader (see
here for email addresses).
Please read the Training and Safety section of the Parkes RadioTelescope User Guide before your arrival at the observatory.
To arrange a SAFETY INDUCTION, please email Brett Preisig or Tom Lees (see here for email addresses).
