JOHN,

Please permit me to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you and your wife for
your beautiful baby girl. I know that my wife, Joan, extends her best to you
also and wishes you much success in the joys of parenthood.

I am also writing to commend you for your excellent and dedicated support to
the Galileo Project specifically the extra effort you provided in ensuring the
maser problem was fixed on 1 October 1997 in time to meet our Pass 2914.  As you
know we have been sequencing our spacecraft to the highest possible data rates
to maximize data return and any perturbation in the ground configuration that
reduces the strength of the received signal has data loss ramifications. Through
your efforts however we did not suffer any losses or have to redesign our
sequence to recollect these data. 

Your support is to be applauded and commended. Your professionalism is deeply
appreciated and publicly acknowledged. Please accept my thanks for a job well
done.
