The Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Sydney, Juan Carlos Brandt, and his wife Jacqueline Aidenbaum of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, visited the Observatory with their son Bernardo Brandt.

Dr. John Reynolds, the Officer-in-Charge of the Observatory, and Dr. Lewis Ball, showed our guests around "The DISH". They were shown the control room of the telescope and were even taken out onto the azimuth track to see more closely the motors that drive the dish about.

Climbing through the interior of the telescope ...

... our guests made in onto the dish surface.

It is a tradition of the observatory that visiting VIP's pop out through the hatch onto the surface. The Brandt's didn't want to miss out on the thrill.

Our guests enjoyed the view as they rode the dish down to the ground.
